'King's Ransom' Roses

Introduced - 1961

'King's Ransom' bears medium to deep yellow bloom and, unlike many other yellow hued roses, the color of the flowers does not become paler even when the temperature rises.

The individual flower measures anything between 4 inches and 5 inches in diameter and is composed of 35 to 40 petals that have a pleasing fragrance. The flowers are borne on long stems, making them useful for use as cut flowers.

The plants of this variety of hybrid tea rose grows up to a height of 4 ½ feet and the canes produce modest number of thorns. This rose is modestly winter hardy, an unusual characteristic for any yellow rose. However, often 'King's Ransom' is slow in repeating blooms, especially during the summer.

'Kordes Perfecta' Roses

Introduced - 1957

'Kordes Perfecta' produced urn-shaped buds that unfurl into very double, high-centered, slender flowers with creamy white hue. The edges of the petals are red.

Each flower of this hybrid tea rose measured about 4 ½ inches to 5 inches across and is composed of as many as 65 to 70 petals. With the rise in temperature the red on the edges of the petals become deeper and the color spreads from the edges downward.

The stems of this rose are long and tough and, hence, excellent for use as cut flowers. The plants grow up to a height of 4 feet to 5 feet, while the foliage is dark green and glossy with a leathery texture. While 'Kordes Perfecta' blooms sparsely, it is somewhat winter hardy.

'Lady X' Roses

Introduced - 1966

The long and pointed buds of 'Lady X' unfurl into slender, high-centered pale lavender flowers, which often have a pinkish shade. When the flowers are fully open the petals curl back, similar to quill, giving the flowers a star-like outline.

Each flower of this hybrid tea rose measures about 4 inches across. Different from many of the lavender hued roses, the flowers of 'Lady X' do not have a rich fragrance.

The disease resistance of this plentiful bloomer is modest. 'Lady X' is among the tallest roses in its color class and the plants grow up to a height of anything between 5 feet and 6 feet.

'La France' Roses

Introduced - 1867

This hybrid tea rose is not grown widely now. 'La France', a living heirloom, is believed to be the first hybrid tea rose and, hence, it is also the maiden modern rose.

The petals of this rose have a silvery pink hue on the inner side, while the color on the outer side is brighter pink. Compared to most modern hybrid tea roses, the flowers of 'La France' have a more ornamental shape.

The flowers are fragrant and each measures 3 inches to 4 ½ inches in diameter and is composed of as many as 60 petals. The plants grow up to a height of 3 feet to 4 feet and produce semi-glossy, green leaves.

'Lafter' Roses

Introduced - 1948

The flowers of 'Lafter' rose are semi-double with a blend of vivid, warm hues - the petals are salmon pink with a yellow base, while their color on the reverse is apricot. The flowers are large, loosely cupped and the petals encircle noticeable yellow stamens.

The leaves of this rose variety have a pale green hue with a leathery texture. The canes produce red thorns. The plants are in bloom from the latter part of their growing season and continue to flower in waves.

'Lafter' rose plants are bushy and have a vigorous growth. The canes are arching and graceful. You may plant this rose in garden beds and borders and also use them as a multicoloured hedge.

Perhaps, 'Lafter' is the best disease resistant rose among all hybrid teas. At the same time, this rose is also hardier compared to most hybrid tea roses.

'Las Vegas' Roses

Introduced - 1981

'Las Vegas' rose brings to the mind the desert hues of Las Vegas sunrise or the full of activity neon of the city's famed Strip. This rose produces luminous orange-yellow buds which unfurl to expose the rich orange-red petals on the insides as well as the golden yellow hue on the outsides.

Each bloom of 'Las Vegas' measures about 4 inches in diameter and is composed of 25 colourful petals. The flowers are deliciously fragrant. The foliage is glossy, has an average green color and is capable of resisting mildew. The bushy plants grow up to a height of 4 feet to 5 feet and are exceptionally hardy.

'Madame Violet' Roses

Introduced - 1981

'Madame Violet' is a robust plant that grows up to a height of anything between 4 feet and 5 feet and its grey-green hued, semi-glossy foliage has an above average resistant to rose diseases.

The flowers of this rose are high-centered and each measure about 3 inches to 4 inches across and is composed of as many as 45 petals. The blooms of 'Madame Violet' generally appear in sprays.

When the flowers open they are perfect spiral in lilac shades with a tinge of pink. The plants of this hybrid tea rose bloom sparsely, but they are quite winter hardy.

'Marijke Koopman' Roses

Introduced - 1979

'Marijke Koopman' rose produces long and pointed buds that unfurl into satiny pink fragrant flowers. Each flower of this rose measures about 4 inches in diameter and is composed of 25 petals.

The flowers are borne in sprays of three to five and they repeat bloom in large amounts all through the summer. The foliage of 'Marijke Koopman' is dark green and has a leathery texture. The foliage grows along with the stems, which have prominent thorns. The plants are vigorous and grow up to a height of 4 feet.

'Miss All-American Beauty' Roses

Introduced - 1967

In Europe, 'Miss All-American Beauty' is known as 'Maria Callas' and it bears cup-shaped flowers, each measuring 4 inches to 5 inches in diameter and composed of as many as 50 to 60 petals.

The deep pink hued flowers have a nearly red look and they are highly scented. The leaves have a leathery texture. The bushy plants grow up to a height of 3 feet to 4 feet and are extremely winter hardy.

'Mister Lincoln' Roses

Introduced - 1964

Many rose lovers define 'Mister Lincoln' as a red rose with long stems. This cultivar has remained a favourite for over 30 years. This hybrid tea rose is an exceptionally dependable bloomer and has a very long flowering season.

Each flower is large, double and measures anything between 5 inches to 6 inches (12.7 cm to 15.2 cm) across and is potently fragrant. It is believed that 'Mister Lincoln' rose is rather susceptible to mildew when grown in cool climatic conditions as well as in places having shade. This hybrid tea rose performs best in the Southeast.

'Mon Cheri' Roses

Introduced - 1981

'Mon Cheri' is an All-America Rose Selection in 1982 and it produces radiant pink hued buds. The edges of the petals of this rose have a dark hue that changes to red as the flowers mature.

Each flower of this hybrid tea rose variety measures about 4 ½ inches across and is composed of anything between 30 and 35 petals. The flowers are more ornamental than they are high-centered and have a spicy scent.

The plants are compact and spreading and grow up to a height of 2 ½ feet to 3 feet. 'Mon Cheri' repeats its blooming sequence very quickly. The plants ability to resist diseases is above average and they are exceptionally winter hardy.

'Olympiad' Roses

Introduced - 1982

This hybrid tea rose was the official flower of the 1984 Los Angles Olympic Games. In fact, the performance of 'Olympiad' can easily be compared to the performances of the athletes who participated in those games.

This is because this rose possesses the ability to thrive in the very different climatic conditions prevailing in southern California as well as the coastal New England. 'Olympiad' bears radiant medium red hued, double blooms with a velvety texture.

If you are careful and are able to protect yourself from the thorns of 'Olympiad', you will find this rose to be a wonderful source of cut flowers that last for a long period.

However, the thorns of this plant make 'Olympiad' an extraordinarily protected barrier when this rose is grown in the form of a hedge.

'Osiria' Roses

Introduced - 1978

This hybrid tea rose bears high-centered, well-formed flowers, each measuring anything between 4 inches and 6 inches across and composed of 50 to 60 petals. The petals of 'Osiria' have a dark red hue on the inside, while the color is silvery white on the outside.

The flowers are heavily fragrant and the blooms re-bloom very quickly, something very unusual of any large rose. The plants of 'Osiria' grow up to a height of about 5 feet to 6 feet and have deep green, semi-glossy foliage, which is resistant to black spot. However, this rose is susceptible to mildew and, at the same time, are extremely winter hardy.
