'Sequoia Gold' Roses

'Sequoia Gold' has been named so to honour the 50th anniversary of Ralph Moore's nursery called Sequoia Nursery. This rose bears plentiful of average yellow hued flowers whose color does not fade even in heat.

The individual flower measures anything between 1 ½ inches and 2 inches across and it is richly fragrant. On an average, the plants grow up to a height of 14 inches to 18 inches.

'Sexy Rexy' Roses

Floribunda, Introduced - 1984

'Sexy Rexy' rose bears double blooms that appear in large clusters all through the season. Each flower measures 2 ½ inches to 3 ½ inches across and comprises 40 or even more petals whose color varies from medium to light pink. The flowers are mildly fragrant.

The plants produce copious small leaves that are glossy and have a pale green color. 'Sexy Rexy' is a free-flowering rose that has a vigorous growth. 'Sheer Bliss' Roses

'Sheer Elegance' Roses

As the name 'Sheer Elegance' suggests, this rose is sure to be a winner on any show table. 'Sheer Elegance' bears pointed, oval-shaped buds that unfurl into classic high-centered blooms of hybrid tea form.

The color of the flowers varies from soft pink to pale salmon, while the edges of the petals are deeper pink. Borne on extended, firm stems, each flower measures 3 inches to 4 inches across and comprises as many as 35 to 40 petals.

'Shining Hour' Roses

Grandiflora, Introduced - 1989

'Shining Hour' is among a small number of yellow hued grandiflora roses. The color of this rose is gleaming yellow, which does not lighten even when the plants are grown in sites where there is plenty of heat.

Each flower of 'Shining Hour' measures about 4 inches across and are composed of 25 to 30 petals and have a mild fragrance. The blooms are high centered or ornamental in shape.

The foliage is glossy and resistant to diseases, while the leaves almost cover the rounded plants that grow up to a height of 3 feet to 4 feet.

'Shining Rose'

Species, Introduced - 1807

With its three seasons of display, 'Shining Rose' (botanical name Rosa nitida) has made a permanent place for itself in gardens in places where the climatic conditions are cold. This rose bears scented, radiant pink hued flowers at the onset of summer.

Again in fall, the narrow, shiny leaflet (from which the rose derives its name) changes their color to scarlet. Soon after, the vivid red hips as well as the brown thorns of the plant offer winter interest.

Similar to most other roses in this species, R. nitida or Rosa nitida is not an impressive shrub, rather it has it quiet charms. The plants sucker quickly and in the course of time form a thicket of lean, reddish stems.

This plant has a spreading habit and this makes R. nitida a wonderful ground cover that is self-sufficient. The ground cover is especially useful in the outer reaches of the garden. In fact, the plants are able to flourish even in poor soils and partial shade.

'Showbiz' Roses

The flowers of this rose appear in large sprays and individual flowers measure anything between 2 ½ inches and 3 inches across. The flowers are double and have a loosely cupped form, while the petals are ruffled and have a light fragrance.

The petals surround radiant yellow stamens. The plants produce plentiful leaves that have a dark green hue and are glossy. The plants have a bushy habit, are low-growing and dense. This rose is an excellent addition to garden beds and borders owing to its bold hues as well as rich foliage.

You can also plant 'Showbiz' in large numbers to form a beautiful low hedge. This rose can also be used in mass planting. While the flowers are excellent for use as cut flowers, the plants are resistant to diseases.

'Shreveport' Roses

Grandiflora, Introduced - 1981

This rose has been named after the Shreveport, Louisiana, which is the home of the American Rose Society. 'Shreveport' bears pointed, oval shaped buds that unfurl into high centered blooms that appear on small sprays.

The flowers are very double and heir color is a blend of amber and orange. The individual flower measures about 4 inches across, is composed of as many as 50 petals and has a light tea fragrance.

The flowers last for a long period and, hence, are very useful as cut flowers. The leaves of 'Shreveport' rose are dark green, large and glossy, while the canes are covered with downward-facing, small thorns. The plants of this rose are robust and grow up to a height of 5 feet. This rose is resistant to diseases as well as winter resistant.

'Sierra Nevada Rose'

Species, Introduced - 1891

It is interesting to note that Rosa woodsii (common name 'Sierra Nevada Rose' is found in a wide range of places including central and western North America. Moreover, this rose has evolved into several location varieties.

The form called fendleri, which is among the most common and grown in most gardens, is a little taller compared to its relatives. Moreover, its shape is more slender. The leaves of 'Sierra Nevada Rose' have a greyish green color.

This rose blooms at the onset of summer and has lilac-pink petals that surround cream-colored stamens. This is a very fragrant rose. After the flowering season is over, the plant produces round, glossy, orange-red hips that sticks to the canes until winter.

This rose is a wonderful shrub to be grown in places having arid climatic condition and where winters are cold.

'Silver Moon' Roses

Climber, Introduced - 1910

'Silver Moon' rose bears pointed yellow buds that are long and they unfurl into large creamy white hued single or semi-double blooms having fruity fragrance. The flowers appear singly or even in clusters and each measures about 4 ½ inches across and is composed of 20 petals. The yellow petals encircle golden amber stamens.

The blooms of 'Silver Moon' rose do not repeat. The foliage of this rose is dark green, large, glossy and has a leathery texture. This rose has a robust growth and is a strong climber. As a climber the plants may reach a height of more than 20 feet.

This rose grows very well on a trellis or other supports. In addition, it is a perfect rose for training into a tree. While 'Silver Moon' rose is rather reticent about flowering, the blooms it bears are really exceptional.

'Simplex' Roses

Miniature, Introduced - 1961

As the name suggest, the flowers of 'Simplex' rose are pure as well as simple. This is a single-flowered miniature composed of five white petals that encircle flashy yellow stamens.

When this rose is grown indoors or in places having cloudy weather, the blooms have a yellow or pink color. Each flower measures about 1 ½ inches across and they appear on plants that grow up to a height of 15 inches to 18 inches. The foliage of 'Simplex' is pale green and semi-glossy.
